--A Loucheux word “LoYu-kun-ah”, meaning “Great river”.
--is named after a river, which the cree called Kisiskatchewani Sipi meaning “swift-flowing river”
--Means "Lake of the Prairies" Comes from either Cree, Ojibwe, or Assiniboine
--Named after the Algonquin word “kebek” meaning “narrow Passage”
--Comes from the word “Kanata” which means “land” and “village” in the language of the Huron.
